Shinichi Murata is chief producer of Japan's renowned NHK Natural History Unit Science Division. After gaining a BA in forestry from Tokyo University, he joined NHK in 1981. In 1996, he became involved with the Wild Asia project, and in 1999 was promoted to the role of chief producer for NHK. He has many major awards to his credit, including a WWF Wildlife Film Festival award, and a Jury Award from the Hi-Vision Film Festival for his film, Satoyama. Creatures of the Thaw is his first project undertaken in conjunction with Natural History New Zealand.
