Adelaide Hechtlinger is a New York City native and is currently a resident of
Island Park, New York. She graduated from New York University and has completed
graduate work at Adelphi University. She is considered an authority on life in
the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and has written books on such diverse
topics as science, quilting, paper antiques, and cooking. When not writing, she
teaches science at Far Rockaway High School in New York City.

other useful information about the landmarks of the six New England
states—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and
