Robert D. San Souci is the author of more than forty books. Though his travels across the United States serve as inspiration for many of his stories, some tales take place in such far-away countries as Armenia and Australia. He has also published numerous articles, which have appeared in Appleseeds, Calliope, and Cobblestone magazines, among other publications.
Even as a child, San Souci was an avid reader. He recalls building his own library and filling the shelves with used books he purchased with money he made mowing lawns. San Souci’s brother, who shared the author’s interest in books, illustrated twelve of his titles.
The author of a Caldecott Honor Book, his accolades include a Marcus Foster Memorial Reading Award, a National Parenting Publication Award, a Storytelling World Honor Award, and an Aesop Award. San Souci received his BA from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California. He lives in San Francisco, California.
