“The writing is clever and lighthearted.”
—Lancaster Sunday News
From the very first taste of A’s sweet apple butter to Z’s last three names
in a Pennsylvania Dutch phone book (Zimmerman, Zeager, and Zook), the Amish
culture is captured and glorified in stunning illustrations and rhymes that are
rich with heritage.
Author Chet Williamson turns every letter of the alphabet into a tribute to
the traditions of those who live in the Pennsylvania Dutch region. B tells
children of Belsnickel, the Pennsylvania Dutch version of Santa Claus, while W
celebrates the Amish’s skill at woodwork.
Through colorful illustrations and informative facts about the Amish people,
Pennsylvania Dutch Alphabet will win the hearts of all readers and
awaken the Pennsylvania Dutch spirit in all of us.
