The
Gulf Coast oil
spill has affected some Pelican authors on a personal level. Jerald
and Glenda
Horst lived and worked with
the L ouisiana
fishing community for years. Their Louisiana
Seafood Bible Series ($25.00)
includes in-depth interviews with commercial
fishermen
and their families, along with recipes many of them have provided. The
books look at the industry of a particular seafood
including history and operation.
Pelican’s publisher and the assistant to the publisher enjoyed a
wonderful evening meal of Louisiana Seafood at Mosca’s Restaurant with
the current class of interns. Crab Salad, Oysters Mosca, and Barbecued
Shrimp, the restaurant’s signature dishes, were enjoyed by all. Good
seafood is still possible in Louisiana.

The
Sixty-eighth Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Reunion was held on April 16-18,
2010. The pilots who volunteered for a secret mission during WWII were the
first to attack the Japanese mainland. The event went down in history as a
classic example of heroism for American airmen. More of this amazing story
is told in John
Chandler Griffin’s biography Lt.
Bill Farrow: Doolittle Raider ($24.95). Lt. Bill Farrow (beheaded by the Japanese) was posthumously awarded
the Distinguished Flying Cross and earned the admiration and respect of a
grateful nation. The 1942 raid provided a boost in morale for the American
public during the dark days of the war.
